911 Security Cameras Inc. is dedicated to the prevention of commercial site theft, and has outlined safety tips for all vulnerable job sites. Keep your job site from becoming a target…
Follow these security tips to reduce your risk of job site theft:
1. Post Signs
Display visable signage with clear and concise messages to intruders such as “Private Property” “Security Cameras in Use” “No Trespassing”.
2. Establish an End of Day Routine for Job Site Security
Businesses should designate an employee as the company crime prevention coordinator for security at each jobsite. The person responsible for security at your operation should walk the site at the end of the day to make sure that everything is secure. Always do a perimeter check to make sure there is no way a perpetrator can enter the premises (e.g. broken fence, overgrown shrubs near fence-jump over). Leave the area locked with all security systems armed.
3. Install Video Surveillance System
Being caught on video is a great deterrent to theft, and can also be used as evidence that will hold up in court cases. Mobile IP surveillance can easily move from one jobsite to the next, and sites can be monitored from any computer at anytime giving you 24/7 surveillance coverage. An estimated 90% of all equipment thefts take place between 6 p.m. Friday and 6 a.m. Monday. Surveillance allows you to secure your job site during these vulnerable time periods. Cameras can also be used for worker safety by detecting unsafe conditions and procedures.
4. Use Security Lighting
Proper and adequate lighting is essential to job site security. Bright white light provides good color differentiation making people easier to identify and license plates easier to read. Among the points on the job site that should be highlighted by lighting are the office trailer(s), equipment storage trailer(s), material storage yard and any equipment storage areas. These areas should be illuminated to a minimum of one foot-candle at ground level. Lighting systems triggered by a motion detector or passive infrared sensors are also recommended for the job site.
5. Protect Your Power Source
Thieves can and will cut power lines. Ideally power lines stay at a height of 24 feet or higher. Further, electric meter boxes can be targets as well so if your site has one, be sure to protect it well or find some other power source. Make sure you have a generator or some other independent source of power for your construction security lighting. Never be out of power with 911 Security Cameras wireless Mobile Surveillance Unit on wheels, perfect for remote operations.
6. Access Point Protection
The entire job site should be enclosed in sturdy fencing. If possible, there should only be one or two accesses or gates through the job site fencing. This makes access control easier. Chain link fencing topped by multiple strands of barbed wire is recommended. Keys should be issued to as few people as possible.
7. Watch out for Employee “Inside” Construction Theft
Insiders are a leading cause of construction theft on most jobsites. They know how the jobsite works and where you keep all the valuable equipment. Before hiring potential employee run a background check on all candidates. Also former employees carry out most jobsite theft. If an employee with key access resigns or is fired be sure to change locks especially if they had access to doors, gates and/or valuable equipment. Practice and communicate a zero tolerance policy on internal theft to all employees.
8. Keep accurate inventory records of equipment/tools
Label all equipment with unique identifying numbers, including the following: Product Identification Numbers (PIN) and Owner Applied Number (OAN). Record manufacturer, model number, year, PIN and purchase date for each piece of equipment
Bottom line: Remote Video Surveillance protects your job site from material and equipment theft.

Important notice for business owners: Nationwide, Farmers, and State Farm have confirmed that installing security camera systems in your place of business will lower your insurance rate. Business owners should ask their insurance agent if installing a security camera system will lower their rate and premium. Insurance companies base their rates on risks, and when cameras are installed, the risk dramatically decreases. Installing a surveillance security system protects your business from risks which include robbery, theft, vandalism, false claims, sexual harassment and others.
- Robbery/ Break-ins: The last thing criminals want is to be caught on tape. Having security cameras will deter burglars from stealing. Theft and vandalism cost businesses millions of dollars each year. With the newest surveillance technology, 911 Security Cameras can provide your business with the best possible security camera solution to protect your business against these crimes.
- False Claims: Perhaps an employee claims to have fallen or that a co-worker/supervisor has mistreated them. By installing a video surveillance system, you reduce the risk that you face. Having a security camera system installed throughout your business can effectively lower instances of workplace violence, detect other unwanted employee conduct and record instances of workers’ compensation claims.
- Inside Theft/Employee Theft: Significantly lower any losses your business experiences due to Inside/Employee Theft by catching employees in the act. Installing security cameras allow you to monitor employee behaviors and deter theft before it happens. Studies show that installing security cameras in the workplace actually boosts employee productivity and morale.
- Sexual Harassment: Security cameras offer the opportunity to catch and correct sexual harassment behaviors even before a complaint is made. When a complaint is made, a video record will be available. For more on how to protect your business and prevent sexual harassment in the workplace read Steps to Protect Your Company Against Sexual Harassment Law Suits
- Workplace Safety Hazards: The power to remotely monitor stores, warehouses, and other work spaces can be used to identify and correct any safety hazards. Exterior cameras offer an additional layer of protection for employees as they walk to their cars at night, and for customers. Installing interior and exterior security cameras help contribute to a safer work environment.
Just as many insurance companies reduce insurance rates for safe drivers and for drivers who own cars with GPS enabled tracking devices, Insurance companies also reduce rates for their business customers that install security camera systems. Not only can you save money from lowered insurance rates and premiums, security cameras are often tax-deductible for businesses which means more savings. The money your business saves from decreased insurance rates/premiums and tax deductions will usually cover all costs of monthly monitoring fees that security services charge. Installing affordable security cameras can pay for themselves very quickly, and give you peace of mind from knowing that your business is protected from risks.
With so many benefits that have a tangible effect on your business’s bottom line, it is easy to see how significant the return on your investment is on a well-designed and professional security video surveillance system. Ultimately a security system will be most beneficial if it is tailored to your specific business needs. That’s why 911 Security Cameras provides custom-tailored video surveillance systems by sending a consultant to perform a security camera site survey and assess your business needs.

Unfortunately for businesses this will bring increased theft from both external and internal sources. Businesses and business owners need to be aware of a possible upcoming crime wave of 2009 in order to stop crime before it happens. Investor’s Business Daily grimly reports about the coming crime wave the US will face and the effects it will have on businesses. Contact 911 Security for video surveillance to protect your business from becoming the next victim.
1- Simply Lock your door and windows.
Double check all doors and windows to make sure they are properly secure before you leave the building.
2- If They Can’t See it, They Can’t steal it.
Keep all your equipment and vehicles inside and out of site. If they can’t see it, they can’t steal it. Don’t leave expensive things (GPS, tools, equipment) in plain view. Thieves will not bother breaking in if they don’t see something not worth stealing.
3- Invest in a Security/ Surveillance System
Installing a security camera system not only serves as a strong deterrent, it also serves as the best witness to identify a criminal after the crime has been committed. Know what is happening outside your place of the business. Install cameras to record people and vehicles in your parking lot so you can look for anyone watching the store, or loitering in or around it. For security cameras visit our website at http://www.911securitycamerascom
4- Conduct Adequate Background Checks on Your Employees
Make sure potential employees don’t have a history of stealing from their employers, and that all of their credentials and references are valid. Keep accurate records of those employees who have been assigned keys. Keep keys in a locked cabinet if possible. Make sure all shop, warehouse and office keys are the type that cannot be duplicated without the master. Account for all keys and do a background check on all your employees that you give keys too. 40% of theft happens from inside help.
5- Provide Bright Toy Security Lighting
Adequate lighting is shown to reduce criminal incidents. Eliminate shadows completely using bright white light that doesn’t create a glare to potential observers. Lighting enables neighbors to identify threats and creates enough light to positively identify intruders on surveillance cameras. Lighting has the additional benefit of helping customers feel safer in parking lots. 65% of all noncommercial robberies happen at night, having lift can help deter criminals.
6- Security Fencing to Limit Access
Security fencing is a vital layer to your security program. If the environment requires it, consider higher than normal fences, secondary perimeter fencing, a concrete footing around the base of the fences and even a solid wall.
7- Display Adequate Security Signage
Visible security signage in multiple languages tells potential intruders that their theft efforts will be met with strong opposition. This communication, backed by one or two forceful interventions, can spread the word that your operations are not good targets for thieves.
8- Conduct Routine Security Maintenance Inspections
Are all of your cameras working properly? Are all your security lights operational? Have any trees or brush grown high nearby that could allow an intruders cover or even a means to climb over fences, walls or other barriers? Are your security gates functioning?

The 2008 holiday shopping season is in full swing which means shoplifters, thieves and fraudsters are ready to rip off unsuspecting retailers and businesses. Shoplifting and employee theft have been on the rise this year as the economy has weakened. According to the National Association for Shoplifting Prevention, more than $25 million worth of merchandise is stolen from retailers each and every day. Shoplifting tends to be more problematic for businesses located near city centers, high-traffic areas, schools, and areas of concentrated low-income residents. Smaller retailers, especially those without any organized security precautions, are also at greater risk of shoplifting.
While theft may be on the rise, you can use the techniques to stay one step ahead:
1-Keep employees/security guards on lookout. These employees can keep a watchful eye out for potential shoplifters. Trained security can provide a deterrent to shoplifting. If you have a security camera system the employee/security guard can monitor it locally or through advanced digital video recorder which allows off-site monitoring. If you don’t have a security camera system you are putting your business at risk and it might be a good time to think about securing your company’s future. Check us out at www.911securitycameras.com
2-Lock all expensive items up in a display case and only show them to customers’ two items at a time. A common way or shoplifting is to have the sales person bring down as much merchandise as possible and while one shoplifter is distracting the salesperson the other one comes in and steals it. By limiting the quantity of items to show, you are lowering your chances of being robbed.
3-Place mirrors to eliminate any hidden corners. Installing mirrors gives you an all-round view of your stores’ blind spots and makes it hard for shoplifters to hide.
4-Improve store layout and design by keeping the height of the merchandise where it does not obscure your vision of events and makes it easier for staff to exercise effective surveillance. Improving layout can eliminate all opportunities for shoplifters to conceal their activity.
5-Advertise against shoplifting. Post warning signs indicating a strict shoplifting policy in corners, dressing rooms, and other hidden spots that may be hard to watch. Alerts potential thieves that the identified merchandise may be subject to special surveillance.
6-If you have merchandise that comes in pairs; only display one of a pair. They don’t want to steal something they can’t sell or use.
7- If you suspect a shoplifter, give them a lot of time and attention. This will make them nervous and most likely scare them away especially if they are amateur shoplifters.
8- Use electronic or ink security tags on vulnerable merchandise. Shoplifters favor items that meet the following criteria: concealable, removable, available, valuable, enjoyable, disposable (CRAVED).
9-Deter a “grab and go” by removing high-end or “hot” items from areas near a door or exit. These types of merchandise are sought out by shoplifters and need to be in areas employees/security guards can protect.
10- Install a video security surveillance system. Video Surveillance systems offer high quality, flexible security features such as off-site monitoring, image capture, and easy archiving. CCTV monitoring system increases surveillance of vulnerable merchandise and locations; it can also be used to identify offenders after the act and/or provide evidence.
